Client: Film Festival Submission

Brief: Scream Queens is a fashion film that instead of asking ‘show me sexy’, asks ‘show me angry’?  Revealing a world where individual women’s anger is encouraged and becomes a rarely captured quality in a cacophony of physicality, promoting diversity and inclusiveness in fashion. Working with zero budget, Anomalous Visuals director Melodie Roulaud created a film submission that showcases female power and anti mainstream views.

Response: Scream Queens stars a cast of women aged 12 to 54 years old who tell us what deeply angers them, including actress Amrita Acharia (Game of Thrones), dancer and actress Eva Magyar (X-Men, Monte Carlo), TV presenter and artist Sophie Morgan, 12 year old European Tang Soo Do Grand champion Ellie Jennings, actress, model and musician Sheila Atim and actresses Nanou Harry, Hermon Berhane, Eva March and Yasmine Yaghi. Everyone involved was asked to channel angry thoughts into something visual or audible that could be used to harness emotional constraint. Alongside the black and white aesthetic stylist Magda Bryk worked on creating simple shapes to accentuate movement with fashion from Chloe, Fendi, Botega Veneta, Joseph, Stella McCartney, Isa Arfen and Issa. The edit was aimed at creating tension between the players and there individual approaches to anger, aided by original music score from Jessica Dannheiser.

Results: Scream Queens has been applauded for its diverse approach to casting and been featured at a variety of film festivals including Berlin Feminist Film Week, Grand Rapids Feminist Film Festival, Independent Days Filmfest and Walthamstow International Film Festival.
